Nasal Cups
People all over the world follow many kinds of cleansing of their internal organs. Many people are not aware of nasal cleaning. The basic method of nasal cleaning is irrigating the nasal cavity with a solution of common table or other salt. If a nasal cup is used, the process is simpler since the cup is designed to pour the solution. The concept of nasal cup has its ancient Indian origin in Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda. Some type of nasal flushing is in practice in some parts of Europe.
Scandinavian fishermen had their time old practice of using saline seawater to flush their nose to avoid cold. Polluted air all around us contains lot of bacteria, which enters through nose. Under normal circumstances, tiny hair growths in the air passage and mucous arrests these bacteria or foreign particles and prevents them from entering lungs. If there is excess of dust and pollutants entering nose, mucus & cilia combine cannot function properly. That’s how clogging of the nasal passage happens? This leads to sinus trouble, which can be treated by nasal cleansing with proper salt solutions. The type of nasal cup used in India is called Neti and the treatment is called JalaNeti. In Indian Hatha Yoga, this treatment is one of the six purification methods recommended to keep the body free from toxins.
Few tips about choosing the right type nasal cups – nasal cup should have a capacity to hold 15 oz. of liquid and that much quantity is needed to flush the nose properly. The cups spout should the size of your nostril. The cup should not be too heavy and made of unbreakable material. Neti should be practiced first thing in the morning. If someone is exposed to pollutants, dust etc. throughout the day, Neti may be practiced in the night before going to sleep.
